Two Simple Rules for Consistent Progress

Maintaining consistency toward a goal is challenging—especially once the initial motivation fades. These two methods are my favorites for beating procrastination:

The Seinfeld Strategy

More commonly known as “Don’t break the chain”

The idea is simple: Whenever you are trying to form a habit or accomplish something towards a goal, grab a calendar and place it at a prominent spot. Each day that you accomplish your goal, mark an ‘X’ on your calendar. Over time, these marks form a chain—a visual reminder of your progress. The challenge then becomes simple: don’t break the chain. This visual reward will keep you going.

The Two Day Rule1

Life happens—there will be days when you break the chain. It’s not a matter of if, but when. And when that happens, the two day rule helps you get back on track.

The idea is simple: Never skip two days in a row. This way, you commit to your goal at least every other day until you resume your streak.

The Seinfeld Strategy builds momentum, while the Two Day Rule ensures setbacks stay temporary. Together, they create a sustainable system for progress.
